BOONE COUNTY, MO. -- Boone County Firefighters battled a natural cover fire just west Hallsville about 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Flames were spread across 25 acres of land along Caldwell Road near the Green Valley shooting range.

Most of the fire was on the west side of the road.

The fire did jump to the east side in one location.

Firefighters said gusty winds made their jobs a lot harder.

Asst. Chief Greg Rush said, “The wind has been very aggressive today.  We’ve been trying to get on these fires quickly.  We make quick attacks on them.  We try to keep them small.  This one here is the largest one we had in Boone County today, but we were able to contain it in about an hour’s time.”

Boone County firefighters responded to 15 natural cover fires on Tuesday.

There were no injuries.
