Columbia Regional Airport has a new manager. Airport superintendent Don Elliot was named interim director after Andrew Schneider was let go.
The airport falls under the guidance of the public works department and director John Glascock made the change. In a news release he did not say why or comment on what was wrong with Schneider's performance in the job. Schneider came to Columbia in November 2010 after working as the airport manager in Jamestown, ND.
Elliot served as interim manager after the departure of airport manager Kathy Frerking, before Schnieider was hired. Elliot takes over immediately.
The airport has seen increased ridership in the past year, but recently announced it's cutting the midday flight to Memphis, at least temporarily.
Construction on a new airport interchange on Highway 63 is also adding a long detour for people driving to the airport.
