CALLAWAY COUNTY, MO -- September was a deadly month in Callaway County. Three investigations involving four deaths left the sheriff’s department crammed and looking for help from the Mid-Missouri Major Case Squad.

Here’s a timeline of the deaths:

--Friday, September 2: Michael and Amanda Wieberg found dead in a burned-down home in Auxvasse
--Thursday, September 8: Deborah Bates found dead in her home near Millersburg
--Friday, September 30: Adam Keith found dead along a county road between Fulton and Toledo

Michael, 56, and Amanda Wieberg, 33
Sheriff Dennis Crane said the couple charged in the Wieberg deaths is still in Michigan waiting to be extradited to Callaway County. Officials from the county will travel by car to pick them up. The 1,300 mile round-trip is expected to cost the county $1,300, or $1 per mile.

Deborah Bates, 54
Sheriff Crane said finding the suspects in the Wieberg case freed up resources to focus more on the suspicious death of Deborah Bates.

Crane said the investigation is still open and there are no suspects at this time. Her roommate found her dead. He is still cooperating with deputies. They plan on talking with him again soon regarding the case.

Sheriff Crane said there have been few leads in the case, but deputies are still pursuing some of them.

Adam Keith, 20
The focus of the county’s most recent death investigation is Adam Keith.

A passerby found him along County Road 132 early in the morning. It’s believed Keith was out drinking with three friends the night before after attending a funeral for one of his friends’ mom.

The sheriff’s office is still waiting on the autopsy and toxicology reports.

“We’re hopeful this will give us a little more insight on what’s in his system,” Crane said.

He’s also waiting to see if the reports match the stories friends gave deputies after Keith was found dead.

The sheriff has not ruled his death a homicide.
