SPRINGFIELD, MO. (AP) -- Greene County health officials are investigating whether a rare bacterial infection found in an elderly person who later died came from a recalled batch of Colorado cantaloupes.
The Springfield News Leader reports that the Springfield-Greene County Health Department is looking into two listeria cases to determine if they are linked to the recent recall of Rocky Ford cantaloupes.
The recall involves only whole cantaloupes shipped by Jensen Farms in Colorado.
Federal reports say the listeria outbreak has killed at least two people, sickened 22 and spread to several states.
The Springfield-Greene County Health Department said two elderly people had been hospitalized with the uncommon bacterial infection. One of them died within the past week. Names or other details about the sick were not released.
