Update: Tuesday, August 16 at 7:10 p.m.:

Seven people went to University Hospital Tuesday after a two-car head-on collision.

It happened on Highway 40 right in front of the Little General Convenience Store by the Midway truck stop in Boone County.

According to highway patrol troopers, just before 10 a.m., a gray Buick pulled in front of a red Jaguar, hitting it head on. The collision caused the Jag to go off the highway and into a concrete culvert. The vehicle then burst into flames.

The driver, Gregory Robinson, of Columbia, was able to get out of the vehicle with moderate injuries. Firefighters were nearby and able to quickly respond to the car fire, but the vehicle is a total loss.

There were six people in the Buick that troopers say caused the wreck. All six suffered varying injuries, none of them life-threatening.

The crash forced emergency crews to close Highway 40 for about a half hour.

It was raining at the time of the crash. Gale Blomenkamp with the Boone County Fire Protection District told KRCG it’s unclear whether the rain had anything to do with the wreck.

Update: August 16 at 12:30 p.m.:

Highway 40 has reopened after the accident scene was clear. A secondary accident briefly closed eastbound lanes, but it was several miles away from the scene of the original accident.

Original Story:

Boone County emergency crews are working a two vehicle head-on collision accident.

Crews responded just before 9:50 a.m. to the accident in the 6900 block of Highway 40, about a mile from the Midway exit off Highway 70.

Reports indicate multiple people were involved in the accident.

Highway 40 near the accident is closed as crews work the accident.

We'll have more details as they become available.
