Opponents of the newly opened Cirilla's in Jefferson City want to keep similar businesses out of town.

The group is preparing a petition aimed at amending the city's current ordinance on adult-oriented businesses. The proposal would create a tighter definition of pronography.

The current law requires that more than one-third of a store's sales be adult items to be qualified as an adult store. City officials said only 25 percent of the stock offered at Cirilla's are considered adult items.

The amendment to the law would not affect Cirilla's, but could make it harder for new stores to open in Jefferson City.

The opponents of the store were upset when it opened in a public area of town. They said it was not properly identified as an adult store. When they first began picketing the store, they had hoped it would slow business and run the store out of Jefferson City.
