4-H high school students facing barriers to college are experiencing what life is like on a college campus.
About 100 high school students from around the state spent a week at the 4-H Youth Futures Conference at the University of Missouri.
Youth Futures helps high school students apply for financial aid, take practice ACT's and even experience college dorm life.
For 10 years, the MU Extension Program has made the dream of college a reality for many underserved youth.
Research shows most students drop out of college not because of academic reasons but for social or financial problems.
"We are taking youth who may feel that they don't have a chance, they don't know that there are options out there for them and letting them know that there are options, that they can obtain their goals and that there are mentors here that will help them," MU Extension Urban Youth Specialist Donna Garcia said.
"Going through this program I’ve jumped from a C to a B to an A and B average, so it's like, it's really good," 4-H Youth Futures participant Diamond Mack said.
