JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- Not long from now kids will be loading the buses for their first day back to school after summer vacation.
But in our economy, money's tight and not everyone can afford school supplies in Saturday’s Facebook Story of the Day we found some organizations who are trying to help.
Local organizations like the Jefferson City Area Board of Realtors, HYPE and churches have collected school supplies for students in mid Missouri
In previous years the Samaritan Center, the Salvation Army and SERVE in Fulton have given school items to families in need.
Another area to think about for buying back to school needs is consignment shops.
K's Consignment Shop in Jefferson City is full of ladies clothing and accessories.
The store's owner said the deals are too good to pass up.
"They can get a really good deal on all the clothing they would need,” K’s Consignment Shop Owner Martha Kremer said. “Teachers, college students and high school students could come here and buy their clothing and a few extras even like jewelry for about 1/4 of what it would cost them in a department store and there's a good variety here too."
Kremer said shopping in consignment stores like hers are also a great way to save money since growing teenagers and even adults often change sizes.
