JEFFERSON CITY, MO -- Everyone loves to go to the pool when temperatures are hovering around 90 degrees but if you aren't a good swimmer, a trip to the pool can be dangerous.

Often times guarded facilities like Memorial Pool, in Jefferson City, aren't the problem. Experts say it's the unsupervised pools where people can get into trouble.

Laurie Herzing with Jefferson City Parks and Recreation said, "A lot of times if someone is struggling they're going to reach for the highest point that's out of the water, and lot of times that's the person that jumped in-its their head and a lot of times even if they're 50 pounds, and you are an adult, they can submerge you under water and put you in trouble."

Herzing says if you're at an unsupervised pool you should always make sure there is an adult who can swim, and if someone is struggling in the water its best to throw them a rope or towel to grab instead of jumping in yourself.
