COLUMBIA, MO. -- Local health officials are urging everyone to be cautious as the entire KRCG viewing area remains under a heat advisory.
Bank thermometers throughout Mid-Missouri hovered around the 100-degree mark on Monday afternoon.
The heat is especially dangerous to the very young, the elderly and the chronically ill because they are more vulnerable to the effects of high temperatures.
Health officials said you should use common sense when working outdoors in dangerous temperatures.
Boone County Health Department Spokeswoman Geni Alexander said, “If you’re working outside, you need to dress for the heat, wear light-weight, light-colored clothing, take frequent breaks and drink a lot of water. Stay away from caffeinated beverages.”
Alexander said you shouldn’t be afraid to call 911 if you suspect someone is suffering from heat stroke or other heat-related illnesses.
