With the threat of the Missouri River inching closer to us in mid Missouri it's important to know what to do if the water reaches us.

Earlier this week the city of Omaha released its flood evacuation plan.

In Sunday’s Facebook story of the day we explore what preparations we should take for the possible flooding here in mid Missouri.

Have a plan and be prepared is what local authorities said they can't stress enough.

They said you should have a plan outline with information about each family member, household pets, insurance and finances, the home itself and your belongings.

But most importantly the plan should outline what each family member should do during an emergency and identify safe places inside and outside the home.

Authorities also said you should be aware of the weather forecast and flood predictions and if you live in a flood prone area, have a bag packed in case you are forced to leave.
