A lot families throughout Mid-Missouri are on a tight budget this vacation season because of the economy and high gas prices.

So KRCG's Facebook Crew did some digging to find some vacation spots around Missouri that are not too expensive for families to have good time.

There are a lot of vacation hot spots throughout Missouri.

But some stand out a little more than others, like Branson's Silver Dollar City.

The Senior Vice President of Silver Dollar City Attractions said there are all kinds of fun places to visit throughout the state.

"There's all kinds of fun nestled throughout the entire state. When times get kind of challenging, it affords us the opportunity to re-discover our own backyard right here in MO,” Silver Dollar City Brad Thomas said.

Daphne Clarks' family is re-discovering the fun in Missouri. She and her family bought season passes to Silver Dollar City for their vacation this year.

But she is also planning other ways to save money while she's on vacation.

"What we do sometimes is pack lunches and leave them in the ice chest out in the truck. Then we'll go to the truck and eat, then we'll just come back in.,” Vacationer Daphne Clark said. “You know the food can get expensive when you're buying for seven people."

An MU Financial Specialist said there are many other ways you can save money on your vacation this year. One way is to go camping instead of staying in hotels.

"Be sure to plan ahead and don't wait til the first Monday that you have off to look up and go; what are we going to do?” MU Financial Specialist Cynthia Crawford said.

Crawford said if you don't have any money for a vacation this year just try to enjoy the small trips as much as you can.

Take the challenge of traveling 100 miles and spending $100. Then I think you will find the vacation memories you can make here in MO are priceless,” Crawford said.

So is your family going on a summer vacation? If so tell us where and how you're planning for your trip.
