JEFFERSON CITY, MO --  Is it ok to sell welfare benefits?

The Missouri legislature recently passed a bill that requires welfare recipients to be drug free if they fail a drug test they could lose their benefits for up to three years.

The bill also requires “electronic benefit cards” to have a photo I-D.

Through facebook Domonique told us there are some circumstances where she thinks its ok to sell the benefits,“people sell the leftover food stamps that they have to support their kids like, as far as if they need diapers they do that, they sell their food stamps.”

She said she simply doesn't think her $292.00 per month in cash is enough, but she gets nearly $560.00 per month for food.

Some state lawmakers questioned the bills cost benefit saying its going to cost taxpayers a million dollars to enforce without knowing how much its actually going to save.

If the governor signs the bill it will go into law in August.
