JEFFERSON CITY, MO -- Smoking has been banned in Jefferson City for about three months. During that time we've heard a few bars have had complaints for not following the new law. But is it really a problem? Or are people just falling in line with the voter's wishes?
According to the city, Chick's Tap Room and Jamey's have had three complaints. The McDonald's on Eastland has had one. All have been resolved.
We visited all three and didn't find anyone smoking. Most people we talked to thought the smoking ban was being properly enforced.
Deanna Holly said, "I have not seen it enforced, I think most people adhere to it."
John Rice told us, "I think its probably going ok, I'm not sure how its going as far as the business is concerned".
Jenny Robben owns The Mission, a bar that has been hit hard by the smoking ban.
She said, "Well so far there have had to be quite a few adjustments made from our standpoint and our customers".
Her business is reportedly down 35 percent since the ban started.
The City says it's not actively looking for smokers. Instead they are responding to complaints on an as needed basis.
