COLUMBIA, MO. -- The Third Annual Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday is underway this week.

People who purchase new Energy Star qualified appliances in Missouri during the holiday will save 4.225% because they are not paying any state sales tax.

County and city taxes still apply in certain areas.

The exemption only applies to the first $1,500 on each appliance.

Sales representatives at Columbia’s Downtown Appliance Home Center said fewer people are taking advantage of the holiday this year as compared to last year.

Sales Advisor Russ Palmer said, “Last year was definitely better.  The first year they did it, a couple of years back, was the best.  That was the first time they had ever done that.  It has slowly trickled off as people replaced those things already.”

Missouri consumers have until Monday to save on energy-efficient appliances during the Show-Me Green Sales Tax Holiday.
