Update: April 13 at 11 a.m.:

Officials at University Hospital said Nina Rembold is in fair condition. Rembold was involved in an accident in Callaway County after a woman reaching for her cell phone caused a head-on collision.

Original Story:

Police say a driver reaching for a cell phone caused a head-on collision seriously injuring a woman in Callaway County Monday afternoon.

It happened on Old Highway 54 just south of Route TT.

The MO Highway Patrol reports Donalee Lomprez, 24, took her attention off the road while driving northbound and crossed the center line.

She was driving a 2003 Volkswagen.

Lomprez hit a 1998 Buick driven by Nina Rembold, 76, who was going south. Rembold suffered serious injuries and was taken to University Hospital in Columbia.

Rembold was conscious and alert when crews used the jaws of life to get her out of the car.

Lomprez suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Capital Region Medical Center.

Both women are from Holts Summit and were wearing their seat belts.
