COLUMBIA, MO -- Update: April 4 at 3:40 p.m.:

The University of Miami (FL) announced today that Frank Haith stepped down as men's basketball coach.

The resignation clears the way for Haith to be announced as Missouri's basketball coach as he has reportedly accepted an offer to be the next head Tiger.

Haith was offered a six year contract, according to some reports. The Board of Curators will have to meet to approve a contract for more than five years. If they do not approve that contract, Athletic Director Mike Alden can hire a coach for less than five years without Curator approval.

No news conference is currently scheduled to announce Haith as the head coach of the Tigers.

Original Story:

News broke late Sunday that the Missouri Tigers have a head coach.

Several national sports outlets are reporting Mike Alden met with current Miami Hurricanes' coach Frank Haith on Saturday during the NCAA FInal Four in Houston.

Haith reportedly accepted the job to become the Tigers' 17th head coach in school history.

Outlets reported early Sunday that Athletic Director Mike Alden had reportedly offered the job to current Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith. Smith turned the job down, according to sources.

And just as storms rolled into Mid-Missouri on Sunday night, a storm of tweets about Frank Haith began circulating among Mizzou fans -- many of them angry over the reported hire.

Missouri officials are expected to meet Monday evening to finalize contract terms, but sources told ESPN that the contract is in the six-year range.

Haith has a 129-101 record at Miami over the last seven seasons. He has made one NCAA tournament in his time with the Hurricanes.
