MODOT and the Department of Conservation are launching a program to encourage Missourians to do some spring cleaning.
The "No MOre Trash! Bash" will take place during the month of April. They are hoping volunteers will get out and clean up the fast food wrappers, soda cans, and other trash of all shapes and sizes that are seen along Missouri's Roads.
During last year's event, more than 128,000 bags of litter were collected from across the state, and more than 16,000 of those came from central Missouri alone.
"The No MOre Trash! Bash is a great way to clean up Missouri while educating the public about the negative impact litter has on our environment," said Dianna Johnson, MoDOT Adopt-A-Highway Coordinator for mid-Missouri. "We are grateful for the work these volunteers do. As MoDOT gets smaller, cuts costs, and reduces services because of the decline in transportation funding, every dollar counts. For every state-maintained mile that's mowed, landscaped, or kept litter-free by our adopters, MoDOT can devote more resources to other critical areas."
Event organizers encourage all Missourians to consider scheduling a clean-up or educational activity and involve friends, family, and coworkers. For more information or to sign up for activities, click here.
