Three St. James residents are behind bars after a clandestine methamphetamine lab caused a fire in the Phelps County community.

On Monday, the St. James Fire Department, Police Department and Ambulance District were called to a structure fire on St. Ann Ave. Police said there were early indications that the fire was the result of a meth lab inside the structure.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal's office and officers from the South Central Drug Task Force investigated the fire further.

On Friday, arrest warrants were issued for Darryl K. Copeland, 50, Dwan L. Estep, 27, and Stephanie A. Gann, 27, were all arrested on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and first-degree arson. They are housed at the Phelps County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
