COLUMBIA, MO. -- Deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 2500 Block of Highway NN West in northern Boone County Friday night.

Joint Communications received a call that a male subject had been shot.

When officers arrived at the scene they found five adults at the residence.

They also found a male with a gunshot wound to the upper leg from a shotgun.

The victim was taken to the University Hospital by Staff for Life helicopter for non-life threatening injuries.

A press release from the Boone County Sheriff’s Department said after talking to everyone present, officers learned that the victim was visiting the residence for a small party.

During the course of the party an argument ensued, which escalated to a physical fight.

The resident, Patrick Baker, 42, showed a shotgun.

Baker and the victim then struggled over the shotgun and the victim received one shot to the thigh, according to the release.

Baker was arrested for First Degree Assault, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and a Failure to Appear Warrant.
