Toyota recalled 2.17 million vehicles in the United States on Thursday.
The recall is an amendment to a 2009 floor mat interference recall. Toyota said no accidents have been caused by the issue in the recent recall.
The recall came after an investigation launched by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration identified the additional models.
1.4 million of the newly affected models were added for the pedal entrapment.
Another problem with the interior panels shape and functionality in addition to the carpeting caused an additional recall.
Owners of vehicles being recalled will receive a first class letter regarding the issue.
Vehicles affected:
RAV4 sport-utility, 2006 to 2010 models
4Runner SUVs, 2003 to 2009 models
Highlander and Highlander hybrid SUVs, 2004 to 2006
Lexus RX SUVs, 2004 to 2007 models
Lexus GS sedans, 2006 and 2007 models
