ST. JOSEPH, MO. (AP) -- A northwest Missouri school bus driver who struck and killed a high school student last year has pleaded guilty to careless and imprudent driving.
Twenty-three-year-old Tracey Jones pleaded to the misdemeanor charge Friday in Buchanan County Circuit Court.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports Judge Keith Marquart then sentenced Jones to two years of probation, 15 days of shock detention and 200 hours of community service.
Jones admitted failing to yield the right-of-way at a crosswalk when she rounded a corner and struck 16-year-old Mason Adams, a junior at St. Joseph's Lafayette High School, last Nov. 15. The boy died later at a hospital.
Adams' mother has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against First Student Inc., the bus company, which fired the driver after the accident.
