BOONVILLE, MO -- Approximately 50 workers at the Nordyne manufacturing facility in Boonville were told Wednesday they won’t have a job come Mid-March.
Nordyne, headquartered in O’Fallon, Missouri; has four Mid-West manufacturing facilities. In Missouri, plants are located in Boonville, Tipton and Poplar Bluff. Nordyne has another facility in Dyersburg, Tennessee.
Nordyne designs and produces heating and cooling systems used in both manufactured and regular residential houses.
Company officials said the layoffs stem from the softness in the economy: both the flat housing market and the decrease in demand for replacement heating and cooling systems. Officials said more people are choosing to repair their home’s heating and cooling systems instead of completing replacing them.
The layoffs go into effect March 18th.
In January 2010, 110 jobs were cut at the Nordyne Boonville plant.
