Governor Jay Nixon and First Lady Georganne Nixon presented $1,868 to Jefferson City's Samaritan Center Monday morning. The money was collected at the Governor's Prayer Breakfast on January 5th.

The Nixon's presented the check to the Samaritan Center's Executive Director Marylyn DeFeo to mark MLK Day of Service. She said the money will help families more than most people will ever realize. DeFeo said with the $1,868 she can buy a pound of beef with every dollar. She said the center goes through up to 4,000 pounds of beef every week.

During his short speech Governor Nixon encouraged Missourians to continue to share with those in need.

The Samaritan Center is an interfaith social service agency that has worked to meet the emergency and crisis needs of mid-Missourians since 1987.
