Jefferson City and Booneville are competing in the final round of Union Pacific’s Great Excursion Adventure “You Route the Steam” Competition.
Four proposed railroad routes are competing to be traveled by the locomotive.
Jefferson City is a stop on The Little Rock Express Route.
The route would begin in Kansas City, then travel to Booneville, the capitol city, Charmois and St. Louis before heading south to Cape Girardeau and onward through Dexter and Poplar Bluff, then to Bald Knob and Little Rock, Arkansas.
A spokesman for Union Pacific said the amount of votes the routes have gotten is astonishing.
“I tell ya, it has exceeded our expectations, Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis said. “The interesting thing is that the voting is on a daily basis is heavy for two of the four routes, it’s just phenomenal.”
You might remember just last fall Union Pacific number 3985 rolled into town to keep the heritage of rail travel alive.
Crowds gathered to see the world war II-era steam locomotive.
If the Little Rock Express Route receives the most votes, mid Missourians will have another opportunity to do so.
“What we’re surprised at I think is the interest that we’re seeing in the Little Rock tour that comes across Missouri and then heads south to little rock because we were just through the state last fall with one of our steam locomotives going to St. Louis,” Davis said.
You better hurry, voting will come to a halt Monday night at 11:59 p.m.
