JEFFERSON CITY, MO -- Tom Schweich promised to point out both problems and successes in government in his new job as Missouri Auditor.
Schweich took the oath of office at noon Monday in the capitol rotunda. Missouri's auditor has power only to point out and recommend changes in government but schweich pledged to work to make sure his audit reports simply don't collect dust.
Schweich said, "We'll work collaboratively with the people we're auditing. But we will also make sure they implement the recommendations we agree on. We will follow up, we will follow through, and we will deliver..."
Keynote remarks Monday were provided by former U.S. Senator John Danforth, a longtime friend and colleague who encouraged Schweich to run for office and who assured the audience Tom Schweich will bring good government. Danforth said, "He will be decent and upright and hard working. He will attend to the condition of our state. He will do a good job..."
Schweich indicated he would announce the members of his senior staff and outline his priorities for the auditor's office on Wednesday.
