Update: Fire at Fort Leonard Wood extinguished

FORT LEONARD WOOD, MO. -- Update: Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 3:55 p.m.

The fire at the Fort Leonard Wood training ranges has been extinguished.

The fire started Sunday afternoon.

Fort Leonard Wood fire officials said dry conditions contributed to the containable fire.

Extremely dry conditions have contributed to a containable fire on several training ranges at Fort Leonard Wood.

The fire started on Sunday afternoon with 60 personnel responding to the fire with six dozers. The Missouri Department of Natural Resources assisted with helicopter support and water drops.

Approximately 1,500 acres have been burned. There were no structural fires and no injuries.

Leonard Wood Fire Chief Jeffrey Sukalski said small spots continue to burn Tuesday and areas around the burn area will be smokey for several more days.
