ST. JOSEPH, MO. -- A former assistant public administrator in Buchanan County has been sentenced to probation and community service for stealing.

Kimberly Adams was sentenced in federal court this week to three years' probation and 200 hours of community service for stealing about $40,000 from elderly clients from 2002 to 2006.

The St. Joseph News-Press reports that Adams' boss at the time, former Public Administrator Bonnie Sue Lawson, pleaded guilty in 2008 to federal stealing charges, admitting to taking about $119,000 from elderly clients.

She's serving a 37-month federal sentence and is set for release in January.
