COLUMBIA, MO. -- It's a sport that more than 19 million people in the United States participate in.

The University of Missouri's School of Natural Resources and their alumni hosted a new shooters workshop Saturday.

The event was held at River Hills Sporting Clays in Boonville for people with no previous firearms experience.

"It's very different because you don't have to be the most athletic," member of the University of Missouri's Shooting Team Ryan Mason said. "You don't have to be the jock on the football team or anything like that. This is a sport where anybody can come out and excel."

The MU shooting team was on hand to teach participants about recreational shooting along with how to handle and aim firearms safely.
