JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri has gone to Kansas to get a new director for its foster care system.

The Missouri Department of Social Services says Candace Shively began work Monday as the new director of its Children's Division.

Shively had spent more than a decade as deputy secretary of the Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services. She also has worked in the Oklahoma social services and Pennsylvania welfare departments.

The Missouri Children's Division runs the child abuse and neglect hot line, the foster care system and adoption services.

Shively replaces Paula Neese, who retired.
