JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri economic development officials said the state had a net gain of 3,600 jobs last month while unemployment edged higher.
The Department of Economic Development reports Missouri's jobless rate stood at 9.3 percent in August, up one-tenth of a point from July.
Monday's report also said Missouri added 5,400 local government jobs as schools returned to session. The accommodation and food services sector added 2,000 jobs in August.
But the state also lost 3,600 federal government jobs and 3,400 jobs in administrative and support services.
