BOONE COUNTY, MO. -- Scott Christianson won the democratic ballot for Boone County Presiding Commissioner over John Sam Williamson by a 3 to 1 margin.
Christianson will now face republican candidate Ed Robb on the November ballot.
Christianson put the primary behind him and looked forward to the November general election during his victory speech at Columbia’s Mojo’s Bar and Grill. Christianson wants Robb to join him in a campaign for Boone County Presiding Commissioner without any partisan rhetoric or meaningless slogans.
“I think my opponent has been a fairly partisan person in his political career," Christianson said. "He has promoted a lot of very partisan issues in the state.”
Robb is a former state representative and a retired University of Missouri economics professor. Robb said the people of Boone County need his experience to help get them through these tough economic times. Robb is seeking only one term as the next Boone County Presiding Commissioner.
“We need to be much better stewards of our tax dollars," Robb said. "We need people who have experience working with budgets, particularly larger budgets. It’s just a matter of looking at the mix of skills.”
While Robb has plenty of campaign experience, this is Christianson’s first attempt at a political office. Christianson and Robb want to replace outgoing Boone County Presiding Commissioner Ken Pearson.
Christianson owns and operates a videoconferencing company in Columbia.
Robb served two terms as a Columbia state representative between 2004 and 2008.
