JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Two Missouri families with a century of combined time in public office are seeking to finally square off against one another.
Democratic Secretary of State Robin Carnahan and Republican Congressman Roy Blunt are headlining Missouri's primary ballot Tuesday in a race for U.S. Senate. Republican state Sen. Chuck Purgason is the only other candidate to mount much of a U.S. Senate campaign.
Tuesday's ballot also features a referendum on a new federal health insurance requirement and several competitive races for Congress, state auditor and the state Legislature.
If Blunt and Carnahan both win spots on the November ballot, it will mark the first time their families have faced off in a general election. Members of their families have served in numerous offices, including governor.
