COLUMBIA, MO. -- Columbia College administrators are making summertime preparations that will make some student’s summer sizzle.
The college is offering course work that will enrich the lives of students in the Columbia Public Schools At-Risk, Gifted Program.
On June 21, the institution will partner with Columbia Public Schools to host 17 high-ability, high-risk junior high students.
The students will get a sneak preview in the college world where they will be exposed to a variety of program offerings.
“We want to give them a great week-long experience where they can get a taste of college and see that they have some potential that they can actually do this," Academic Affairs Dean Dr. Terry Smith said. "We will not only give them exposure to the academics but some of the aspects of college life.”
“It’s our goal as part of this partnership to provide them with an overview of the college experience so that the seeds can be planted that this is, perhaps, something in their future, a college education,” Education Department Chair Paul Hanna said.
The high ability, at-risk Columbia Public School students will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of experiences ranging from art to sports.
