(AP) -- JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri gambling regulators say they've received 15 letters from people interested in developing a new casino.

Missouri has a maximum of 13 casino licenses, and one of those will become available this summer when the President closes on the St. Louis waterfront.

The Missouri Gaming Commission had asked anyone interested in applying for the license to notify regulators.

Not all of those expressing interest specified a location. But regulators said Tuesday there was interest for casinos in Sugar Creek, Cape Girardeau, West Alton, St. Louis, Spanish Lake and the northeast Missouri town of Louisiana.

A new casino would not have to be located near St. Louis, but state law only allows casinos on the Missouri or Mississippi rivers.

The Gaming Commission plans to meet May 18 in Jefferson City.
