(AP) -- JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) -- The Missouri Senate has added a statewide ban on red-light traffic cameras to a broad bill on transportation.

Republican Sen. Jim Lembke of St. Louis has tried for years to ban the cameras. Senators approved his amendment by a 23-8 vote Monday, but Senate leaders later voiced skepticism about its chances of staying in the bill.

After the amendment was added, the bill was sent to a Senate committee for review. It still needs final votes in the Senate and House.

Senators also added an amendment ending mandatory vehicle inspections every two years.

Another provision would expand Missouri's ban on texting while driving to motorists of all ages. The ban currently applies only to young drivers.
