A Columbia man convicted of killing a newspaper editor may have reason for renewed hope.

Ryan Ferguson is serving a 40- year sentence.

Yesterday, the court of appeals agreed to consider a new videotaped deposition from Ferguson’s accomplice as part of its review of the case.

Charles Erickson first said Ferguson strangled Kent Heitholt Oct. 31, 2001. Then, last November, he recanted some testimony.

He now says the crime was his idea and Ferguson tried to stop him.
