MARIES COUNTY, MO -- The two Kansas natives charged in connection with a dangerous high speed chase overnight Friday are still in custody in mid-Missouri.

James E. Anderson, 20, of Kansas is charged with resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving without a license. His bond is set at $50,000. Anderson also has an outstanding warrant for assaulting a police officer.

His passenger, Morgan E. Schwab, 20, also from Kansas, is charged possession of drug paraphernalia.

The duo fled from Maries County deputies during a traffic stop on Highway 63 near Vichy. The chase continued into Phelps County, to Rolla city limits then to Interstate 44 into Pulaski County.

Authorities say the two attempted to ram a patrol vehicle during the pursuit and that speeds topped 100 miles per hour. After about 40 minutes. Police finally had to use spike strips to pop the car's tires.

Both Anderson and Schwab got out of the car and ran on foot. But shortly after, they were taken into custody. Deputies found meth manufacturing materials in the car.

Maries County sheriff Chris Heitman says it could be weeks before the two are extradited back to Kansas.
