COLUMBIA, MO. -- A mid-Missouri veteran and his or her family have a special opportunity to become a homeowner.Columbia-based VAMortgageCenter.com donated $60,000 Boone County's Show-Me Central Habitat for Humanity to fund the organization's first-ever Veteran Build Project.
VAMorgageCenter.com employees will also help build the house.
"There are two things that we're very passionate about. One of those is obviously helping military men and women. And the other is giving back to our community," VA Mortgage Center CEO Nate Long said. "Its pretty exciting because this is a very unique opportunity to do both those things at the same time."
Officials said they hope the home will be completed by Veteran's Day in November.
For now, Habitat organizers need deserving Columbia-area veterans to apply to own the Habitat for Humanity home.
Applications are due by April 15.
Organizers reiterate this is not a hand out. The veteran selected will pay for the house with an affordable no-interest loan.
To qualify for this home, a family must have a housing need and meet the set income guidelines.
You can apply by visiting Show-Me Central Habitat's website.
Applications can also be picked up or dropped off at the Show-Me Central Habitat office, located at 1906 Monroe St. in Columbia.
For more information, you can call the office at (573) 449-1202.
VAMortgageCenter.com was founded in 2002 and is the number one dedicated VA purchase lender in the nation.
The company has served over 500,000 military families and will secure more than $1 billion in VA funding this year alone.
