JEFFERSON CITY -- More than 100 residents angry about Jefferson City's new trash and recycling program packed city hall, telling stories of trash lying in the street.
"We don't like nothing about it," said Arthur Brown, who is against the city's recycling program. "We get smaller barrels, less service, more money. It's all been forced on us."
Many, like Brown, wore buttons and spoke out, saying they don't want to be told to recycle.
Allied Waste, who has the contract for trash pick up, said things have gone well so far despite a few speed bumps.
They wouldn't speak on camera but say the public criticisms aren’t anything new.
Another issue on the table was putting an end to smoking in restaurants and bars.
The group ‘Smoke Free Jefferson City’ presented a report about the effects of second hand smoke.
Several people at the meeting indicated they would support a public smoking ban.
Councilwoman Carrie Carroll said she would support the measure depending on how it was worded. So far there is no bill to ban smoking indoors.
