JEFFERSON CITY, MO. -- The Jefferson City police officer involved in a fatal auto pedestrian accident has resigned his position.

The accident happened last November on Highway 50 near Route 179.

A report came out last week from the highway patrol that showed that officer Zachary Jenkins was speeding, but probably could not have avoided hitting Norman Carlock.

Police suspect the victim was drunk and made no effort to hurry across the highway.

The police department said Jenkins was never placed on administrative leave and resigned last week about the same time the accident report was released.

The city's attorney said he resigned over issues unrelated to the accident, but would not elaborate.
