COLUMBIA -- The poor economy and high demand for help has affected the Salvation Army’s Christmas Assistance Program.

The organization is adding two more days to its schedule to apply for the program.

Today and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., you can sign up at 1108 West Ash Street in Columbia.

Officials with the service organization say there is a larger number of people in the area who have been adversely affected by the economy.

Applicants need to bring a picture I.D. for all adults in the family, social security cards for all immediate family members, proof of current address and proof of all sources of income.
