Vogel endorses Jefferson City businessman to replace him for state Senate

JEFFERSON CITY -- Term-limited state Sen. Carl Vogel says Mike Kehoe's entry into the senate race doesn't change his long-standing support for another Jefferson City businessman.

"Mr. Otto is my choice," Vogel said Friday.

Vogel says he's backing Harry Otto, the president of the Jefferson City Area Chamber of Commerce for the 6th District Senate seat.

"It appears there are gonna be numerous, very capable candidates in the Republican primary next August," said Vogel. "Informally, different candidates have been speaking to each other to peldge their commitment to talk about issues and stay on the high road. And if everyone does that, then, as a party, to the winner I offer my congratulations."

"And the next day," said Vogel. "I will do everything I can to make sure, in the hundred days following after the primary, that the person the people choose in the primary goes on and becomes the state senator from the district."

Kehoe formalled announced his candidacy in the Republican primary at a rally Thursday. Kehoe, a successful car dealer, is also chairman of the State Highway Commission.

The field of GOP candidates could expand to inculde current state representatives Bill Deeken, Mark Bruns and Kenny Jones.

The 6th Senatorial District includes: Cole, Callaway, Moniteau, Morgan and Miller counties.
