AG's office: Online inauguration tix are scams
JEFFERSON CITY -- Be aware of anyone offering to sell you tickets to January's presidential inauguration - they're trying to scam you, according to the attorney general's office.
After President-elect Barack Obama's historic win last week, ads have popped up on Web sites like Craigslist and eBay offering to sell tickets to the Obama inauguration in Washington, D.C.
The problem is that tickets are free, and available only through your local congressman.
The government's only printing 250,000 tickets and demand is far outweighing the supply. The tickets will be released a week before the Jan. 20 inauguration but that hasn't stopped some from trying to sell fake tickets, or promising to get some - and then sell those later.
KRCG found one person selling a single ticket on eBay - one he didn't even have yet - for a starting bid of $5,000.
"If you are leary about the purchase then don't waste my time," the seller wrote. "This ticket will be gone by the time you get done making up your mind."
