CLARKSVILLE, MO. (AP) -- Holcim Inc. says it plans to close its cement plant in Clarksville by early next year, which will leave about 180 people unemployed.
The Swiss-owned firm is one of Pike County's largest employers, drawing workers from Missouri and Illinois.
Company spokeswoman Nancy Tully called the Tuesday announcement a black day for Holcim. It's been a tough time for that part of eastern Missouri. While Clarksville was largely spared by Mississippi flooding earlier this year, other communities in the area weren't as fortunate.
