JEFFERSON CITY, MO -- Cities and counties across mid-Missouri are preparing for a possible historic snow storm.
One county went so far as to request volunteers with four wheel drive vehicles to help transport medical personnel if necessary. Miller County Emergency Operations is asking those willing to help to send and email to: emd@millercountymo.org
Barlow Biggers, the Director of Miller County’s Emergency Management office, said her department is compiling a list of individuals willing to help get doctors, nurses and other medical personnel where they need to be during the snow.
Ameren Missouri, which supplies power 1.2 million electric and 126,000 natural gas customers in Missouri, is moving extra equipment into the region including hundreds of additional trucks and linemen into the St. Louis area.
Ameren already has tractor trailers full of supplies stationed in Audrain County, Cape Girardeau and four in St. Louis.
If you are an Ameren customer, you can call 1-800-552-7583 to report downed power lines or outages. To view Ameren's outage map click HERE.
Other power companies, including the City of Columbia and Boone Electric Cooperative tell KRCG they are preparing for the worst.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol has advised motorist to avoid traveling in the snow storm.
The patrol says they will have troopers out in full-force working 12 hour shifts during the storm. Even though many troopers will be driving four wheel drive pickup trucks, the patrol warns that response times could be much longer than normal, especially on secondary roads.
