COLUMBIA, MO. -- A high-speed chase through Columbia this afternoon ended with two arrests, a wrecked car and no injuries.

Officers with the Missouri State Highway Patrol spotted a stolen vehicle on I-70 and tried to pull it over.

Instead of complying, the driver took the Business Loop 70 exit and a high-speed chase ensued.

The driver took the car southbound on Garth Avenue, continuing at a dangerously high rate of speed.

Because of the potential dangers to bystanders, the pursuing officer was about to stop chasing the vehicle when it crashed near the intersection of Garth and Broadway.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. Scott Ballard said, “We knew it was a holiday. Possibly, there were kids outside. This gentleman was failing to stop for stop signs. We did not want to put the public at risk by continuing the pursuit of this vehicle. We attempted to terminate, but, at the same time, he crashed.”

The two suspects inside the stolen vehicle tried to run from the scene, but were quickly arrested.
