A Mexico Middle school student is in a detention center after he hid a gun on school property.
On Monday, the Audrain County sheriff's office investigated a report that a 13 year old male was seen with a loaded gun at a local trailer park.
The teen was found at the Middle school participating in an after school activity. He was not in possession of the gun when police located him, but he had hidden the weapon outdoors and on school property.
There was no indication that the teen planned on using the gun at the school, but instead had attempted to hide it before entering.
The juvenile was transferred to a detention center by the 12th Circuit Court Juvenile Division. MPSD, ACSO, and the Mexico Public Schools are continuing to investigate the issue to ensure the schools are safe.
