HOLTS SUMMIT, Mo. -- Why did the chicken cross the road?

In Holts Summit, it seems his goal was to create several dozen new jobs.

Pro Food Systems, Inc., a company that sells food products and deli equipment to retailers, plans to build a new headquarters facility in Holts Summit, adding 43 new jobs.

Pro Food Systems is the company behind Champ's Chicken, which is sold in convenience stores and supermarkets throughout the country.

The CEO and President of Pro Foods says building in Holts Summit just made sense.

"Well, the logical choice was this is where we decided to build initially,” said Shawn Burcham of Pro Food Systems. “So the choice for me was to make sure that we could maintain the jobs here for the people who helped us get where we are."

The total projected cost of the new building is $6 million.

The Department of Economic Development also put together an economic incentive package for the company, which includes initiatives from the Community Block Grant and Enhanced Enterprise Zone programs.
