Update Tuesday, July 31st at 11:30 a.m.:

Power has been restored to all the South Columbia homes that were without power Tuesday morning.

Columbia Water and Light officials said there were about 1400 customers left in the dark just before 7:00 a.m. That's when a semi truck hit a MediaCom cable over Bearfield Road. That cable pulled down three power poles causing the outage.

Crews said about 1,000 customers were in the dark for 30 minutes. The remaining 400 people didn't get power restored until a little after 11:00 a.m.

Even though power has been restored, crews are still on the scene trying to set the poles into place. Crews are expected to work throughout the day to get the poles upright.

Nearly 1,000 homes in South Columbia lost power Tuesday morning after a semi truck crashed into a utility pole.

Columbia Police said the accident happened shortly before 7:00 a.m. at the intersection of East Nifong and Bearfield near The Cottages apartments.

Columbia Water and Light crews have restored power to most households, while they work to restore the remaining customers who are left in the dark and without their air conditioning. No word on how many customers are still without power.

Crews on the scene indicate to KRCG there were no injuries reported from the crash.
